Henry fetes Gawai guests at open house

BAU: Datuk Henry Harry Jinep and family welcomed guests, well-wishers and constituents to the closing of Gawai celebration at his open house event at Dewan Sri Singai, Kampung Sudoh here today.

Henry, who is Deputy Minister of Transport  and Tasik Biru assemblyman, said he organised the event as June 30 is the last day of Gawai.

The ceremony started as early as 9 am and people of various backgrounds, mostly the Bidayuh community here and foreigners arrived at the venue.

Most of the food prepared were Bidayuh traditional food as well as traditional snacks such penyaram, cakes, crackers and other delicacies for people to enjoy.

The ceremony was also enlivened with live bands and traditional dances as the celebration went on until 4 pm later in the evening.

“This is the last Gawai we will have, and this is the last date in the month of June. So I take this opportunity to do my open house event here.

“Normally, we will celebrate Gawai for one month, but since we have other functions and ceremonies, it does not always happen.

“So, I welcome everyone to join the celebration together, enjoy the food, the music that we prepared since this is the last day of June,” he said.

During the ceremony, Henry also presented the Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds to organisations, associations and government agencies.

A total of RM1.6 million was allocated to 50 recipients to organise programmes, activities and other matters in their respective organisations.
