‘Hit-and-rob’ suspect in Kuching jailed

KUCHING: A 34-years-old male suspect was sentenced to 10 months in prison and a fine of RM5,000 for robbery.

According to the Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah, the modus operandi used by the suspect was to hit a victim’s car and pretend to discuss the matter, and rob the victim.

“There are six investigation papers that were opened under Section 392 and Section 379 of the penal code after the police received six case reports from July 1 to Aug 23 in the Kuching area, including the viral video posted on Aug 23.

“With that, the Kuching District Police Headquarters has activated a special team (CAT JSJ) to hunt down the suspect.

“The operation was a success when the team successfully located and arrested the suspect in a kampung in the Asajaya area on Aug 29,” he said.

He stated that the suspect has four previous investigation reports and has been remanded for nine days.

“With the arrest related cases being fully resolved within nine days since the first incident, the suspect was sentenced to 10 months in prison and a fine of RM5,000 on Sept 8,” he disclosed.
