Home for elderly receives daily necessities, cash

KUCHING: Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng, a home for the elderly, was among the 12 charitable institutions in the country that received daily necessities and cash from Fraser and Neave Holdings Bhd (F&NHB).

The donation worth more than RM36,000 was part of the Group’s tradition to spread smiles during the Chinese New Year period this year.

The homes visited included Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang, Pertubuhan Pengurusan Pusat Jagaan 1 Malaysia, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Terencat Akal, Cheerful Children Centre, Persatuan Kebajikan Shan De Johor Bahru, Joy Garden Karak -House of Joy, Lions Club Kota Bahru Down Syndrom Centre, Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak terencat Akal K.Trg, One Home Care Centre, Brunei’s Autism Centre and Pusat Jagaan Titian OKU Nur Rawang.

Close to 100 staff volunteers visited the homes which are located in Butterworth, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor, Mentakab, Kota Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, and even Brunei.

In total, they visited 460 orphans, disabled children, and senior citizens all across Malaysia this year.

The volunteers also distributed personal care products, Mandarin oranges, F&N food items, and ang pows (red packets) worth RM 5,000 to the residents.

F&NHB Communications, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability director Karen Tan said that the Group actively supports initiatives that give back to the community, as Malaysians have always supported them through both the good and bad times.

“We have been carrying out this festive season initiative for more than 20 years and we will continue giving back for many more decades to come.

“We believe that spreading festive cheer helps members of our communities to connect with each other and strengthen the bonds between people of different cultures,” she said in a statement.

Tan added the effort is also part of F&NHB’s commitment to a ‘Better Society’, by supporting vulnerable groups such as the elderly and underprivileged children.

“As we celebrate 140 years, we are all the more committed to continue initiatives to support communities in which F&NHB operates.

“We want to foster a greater sense of unity in our multicultural nation, and build impactful relationships through meaningful engagement with our stakeholders,” she said.
