KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching was invited to share community and volunteerism work with the Malaysian Future Leader School (MFLS) alumni at Sampadi, Lundu last weekend.

According to its statement today, the sharing session was done at the Volunteer Figure/Icon Sharing programme organised by Kem Wawasan Sampadi of the Sports and Youth Ministry.

Hope Place founder, Kelvin Wan, together with two of his team members were given a two hour session where they also shared a brief history on their non-government organisation (NGO), various volunteering programmes available and different experiences gained by them throughout the years.

“We encourage the public, especially the youths to join us in our community work. We hope to impart compassion and love in our society,” said Wan.

With the 50 participants attending the programme, he expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the wonderful opportunity and also hoped to collaborate in future programmes.

For the record, since its establishment in 2013, Hope Place has always opened its doors to the public to participate in community work in Kuching.

It offers volunteering work such as aid delivery to recipient’s houses around Kuching, joining the emergency response team in helping flood/fire cases, house cleaning services to people with disabilities and sorting of pre-loved items.

In line with this, one of his team members who has been with Hope Place since 2013 stated that she chose community work rather than other vocations because of the gratification that she has the power and opportunity to make a change in our society.
