KUCHING: Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) has encouraged hotels to seek Halal certification, boosting Muslim patrons’ confidence in dining at their establishments.

Its president Datuk Misnu Taha said as eateries and hotels roll out their Ramadan buffet promotions, the importance of Halal certification becomes apparent, although not mandatory, for easing diners’ concerns.

“Alhamdulillah, most Kuching hotels, especially those within the golden triangle, are Halal certified. I’m grateful for their efforts in obtaining the certification.

“Obtaining the certification not only helps in reassuring Muslim guests but also aids in promoting these hotels within the Muslim community,” he told reporters after officiating Konti Internet Radio Islamic Sarawak (IRIS) at Baitul Makmur II Building here today (Feb 27).

He also noted the absence of a specific ordinance requiring Halal certification for Ramadhan buffet promotions in Malaysia but stressed the importance of adhering to Halal dietary standards.

“What we consume becomes a part of us, so I strongly advise dining only in places where the Halal status is assured,” he said, urging non-certified hotels to consider applying.
