KUCHING: Spending extra hours studying paid off for SMK St Teresa student Reshyini Nisha Kanan who scored straight A’s in her Form 3 assessment test (Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 or PT3).
Reshyini, 15, admitted that she had to discipline herself to follow the timetable that she herself set.
“I regularly do my revision for about one to two hours daily before I finished my homework. And I would answer a few sets of questions in exercise books apart from attending tuition classes during weekends,” she said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
When asked if she would venture into Science, Technology, English, and Mathematics (STEM) classes next year, she admitted that she was nervous but determined to explore more new subjects.
“Next year I will study harder because there will be more subjects. In the meantime, I will do some research on the Internet for some tips.
“I will try different methods of studying such as forming a study group,” she said.
Like Reshyini, Victoria Frances Teng May Wen also scored straight A’s.
Victoria, who was in the same class with Reshyini, said she would make a list of subjects and the chapters that she needed to emphasise.
“Of course I believe that time management is really important in preparing for public exams. Usually I revised one to two subjects per day.
“I made sure that my homework was done during the day after school because I did my revisions according to the list that I’d highlighted at night,” she said.
She also said that students must have proper rest in order to stay healthy.
“I usually studied an hour straight and then take a short break before resuming my revisions. I would finish up and sleep at 10pm every night. But when I was too tired, I’d sleep earlier because proper rest is important for students,” she explained.
Setting her sister as her role model, Victoria said she would take up STEM course next year just like Reshyini.
“I really look up to my elder sister who’s in Swinburne now because she’s a very hardworking girl. Seeing her study consistently motivates me to put in more effort into my studies next year.
“I am very humbled by my PT3 results and I hope to do even better in the future. Of course, I hope to excel in my curriculum activities too,” she said.
