SUN, sand, scantily clad men and women: Summer holidays heighten the mood and your hormones. The beach and the hotel bar are the perfect locations to flirt.

But how do you flirt successfully? By not asking questions at first, flirting coach Horst Wenzel says. Questions often seem to demand something of the other person.

“It’s better to make a comment,” says the head of Flirt University. People want to relax while on holiday — they don’t want to answer annoying questions. It’s more likeable to chat about your holidays. You should also respect others’ boundaries while flirting and pay attention to your conversation partner’s body language.

“If a woman would prefer to retreat, for example, she will pull her shoulders up,”

Wenzel says. That means it’s time for you to make a friendly exit. How should you even start a conversation in a hotel bar? “The currency at a hotel bar is fun,” he says.

If you can make others laugh, that’s a sign it’s going great. Commenting on things at the bar also works, such as “that looks delicious” or complimenting the other person’s outfit. – dpa
