KABONG : A 2.9-metre-long crocodile was captured in Sungai Endot last Saturday (December 17).

Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said the reptile was captured by its Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) assisted by the district office of Kabong, Saratok district police, and the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department of Sarawak.

“This culling operation that was aimed at reducing the crocodile population, started on December 12 in Sungai Krian and was led by SWAT SFC Sibu.

“We have been urged to take action after complaints made by residents living in the area due to many missing persons who have allegedly been victims by crocodiles in Kampung Hulu Laut,” said the corporation.

It added that the operation was in line with the Crocodile Estuary Management Plan under the Wildlife Protection Ordinance, 1998 and was approved by the Controller of Wild Life.

The corporation urged the public not to act carelessly when facing threatening situations.

It advised the public to be vigilant when fishing or doing any other activity in the river.
