KUCHING: Local bus operator, Biaramas Express Sdn Bhd, plans to switch from diesel to hydrogen-powered engines for its buses next year.

Its general manager, Lai Sin Kiong, said that this move is a joint effort with the KIS Group.

“We hope that through the utilisation of hydrogen, which aligns with the direction and vision of the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg), Sarawak will achieve the highest standards of air quality,” he said this during the launching of the Bus Asia Double Deck and BA Logistics Prime Mover, which was officiated by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin today.

On another note, Lai announced plans to broaden the RM1 Flat Rate Bus Fare Programme to key areas soon. This programme has been popular, particularly among seniors who need to visit clinics or hospitals regularly.

Lai said that this affordable fare lets them easily visit markets or shops, giving them more freedom compared to just staying at home.

He hoped to extend this subsidy programme to areas like Bandar Semariang, Buntal-Santubong, Telaga Air, Jalan Puncak Borneo, Bau, and more in the future.
