KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) Faculty of Engineering has achieved a significant milestone by hosting the International Science and Technology Expo (i-STEEX) 2020 in conjunction with its flagship conference, the 13th International Unimas Engineering Conference (EnCon) 2020.

This year, i-STEEX 2020 was conducted fully online through video competition on the YouTube platform.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) themed expo received overwhelming responses nationwide amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

I-STEEX 2020 featured 66 video presentations from various schools, institutions of higher learning, and other agencies.

Year 2020 marked 42 video submissions from schools, 12 entries from school teachers under the STEM category, and 12 entries from institutions of higher learning, government agencies, and other tertiary institutions.

Winners of gold, silver and bronze awards shall receive cash prizes of RM1,000, RM750, and RM500 respectively.

The announcement of winners was held on Oct 28 via the ‘official isteex’ YouTube channel.

The expo was co-organised by the State Education Department (JPNS), Students Association of Faculty of Engineering (SAFE) and A Community-Centred Educational Model for developing Social Resilience (ACES).

Since its inception in 2016, the main goal of i-STEEX is to act as a platform for youths, especially school students, to apply their knowledge and creativity into innovative ideas.

This is in line with the national STEM aspirations to nurture the young generation’s interest in STEM-related activities beyond physical classrooms.
