KUCHING: The 38th Premier Sarawak Cup ITF World Tennis Tour Junior J300 (J1) day 2 singles action were filled with upsets left and right as 11 top seeded players from boys and girls singles categories crashed out of the tournament on Wednesday.

The biggest upset of the day is none other than the Australian first seed Hayden Jones who lost to giant killer from Great Britain, Josh Manuel after three sets of hard-fought rally under the scorching hotsun in the boys’ singles round of 32 action.

The top seed was visibly struggling in the third set due to the heat and at one point even needed the medical personnel to come in for treatment.

After two hours and 27 minutes, he eventually succumbed to the wildcard player from United Kingdom by 3-6, 6-2, 3-6.

Number six seed Patrick Schoen also lost to Shu Muto in round of 32 by 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 while Australian number 14 seed Jeremy Zhang also lost to Polish Oskar Grzegorzewskiby 0-6, 4-6.

United States number seven seed had to forfeit as well after two sets against Amirkhamza Nasridinov.

Meanwhile, in girls’ singles action, number two seed Melisa Ercan from Turkey had to pull out in her bout against Australian Sarah Rokusekafter three sets due to muscle cramps.

Third seed Lily Taylor from Australia also crashed out in two sets against Amy Sucha from Czech Republic by 2-6, 3-6.

Chinese Taipei’s Wan I Wen continued her momentum from qualifying rounds and caused an upset by defeating number nine seed Zhao Yi Chen from China by 6-4, 6-0.

Singaporean Tan Sue Yan also took down number 10 seed AnjaNayar from Australia with ease by 6-4, 6-1.

South Korean Cho Nahyeong and Polish Daria Gorska managed to topple number 14 seed Lidia Podgorichani from Thailand by 6-0, 6-2 and number 15 seed Diana De Simone from Italy by 6-1, 6-4 respectively.

Polish DominikaPodhajecka completed the day filled with upsets by mounting a comeback against number 16 seed Margot Phanthalaby 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
