KUCHING: Sarawak Customs Department seized a gambling machine valued at RM20,000 with unpaid taxes amounting to RM8,000.

Its director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Taha said on Dec 12, its enforcement team carried out a thorough inspection on a container at the Senari Port for violating the Customs Act 1967.

“During inspection, the enforcement team found four wooden cases that were suspiciously hidden within piled up with boxes. Following further inspection, the team found the gambling machine declared as furniture under the K3 form to avoid being detected by the authority.

“The machine was seized and kept at the Kuching enforcement store and the agent of the logistic company has been called in for investigation,” she said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 133 of the Customs Act 1967, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM500,000 or imprisonment for a period of seven years, or both upon conviction.

Sharifah Halimah urged the public to cooperate in channelling information in connection with smuggling activities or controlled items without import permit by calling Custom Toll Free 1-800-88-8855, website at http://aduan.customs.gov.my or any Customs office.
