SIBU: Marine police have seized 70 logs believed to be illegally felled, worth more than RM130,000 in an operation at Batu Luking, Kanowit.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement today (Nov 21), said the operation codenamed ‘Ops Pensura’ was carried out around 10 am on Nov 20.

“Acting on information received, a team of officials found the pile of logs tied to a raft along the riverbank.

“Examinations revealed that the logs were believed to have been illegally felled as they did not carry any marking from the Sarawak Forest Department,” he said.

The logs valued around RM136,500, were handed over to the Kanowit Forest Department for further action.

Zulkipli said the case is being investigated under the Sarawak Forestry Ordinance 2015.
