Illicit beer worth RM79k seized

The contraband alcoholic drinks seized by GOF 10th Battalion last Thursday.

SRI AMAN: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized contraband alcoholic beverages, namely beer of various brands worth more than RM79,000 in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Libas’ last Thursday.

A GOF spokesperson said acting on information the GOF 10th Battalion carried out the raid on one premises in the town centre here around 9.30am.

During the raid, the team inspected the premises thoroughly as it was suspected to be used in storing uncustomed alcoholic beverages.

“Inspections found that 485 boxes of various alcoholic drinks (beer) such as Carlsberg, Cambodia, Estrella and Kingsway, suspected to be uncustomed and without any tax stickers from the Customs Department.

“All of the contraband goods are worth RM79,050.28 including unpaid duties,” the spokesperson said.

Apart from confiscating the illicit goods, the team also arrested a local man believed to be the premises keeper to facilitate investigations.

Both the arrest and seizures were handed over to Sri Aman Criminal Investigation Department for further actions.

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
