Indonesians jailed for human trafficking

KUCHING: Two Indonesian men have been sentenced to prison by the High Court here for their involvement in transporting migrants from their country into Malaysia in April last year.

Aprizal, 29, and Joko, 39, pleaded guilty before Judge Alexander Siew How Wai to charges framed under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

Aprizal was charged with transporting four Indonesian men and an Indonesian woman in a Toyota Avanza at the Biawak Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex checkout counter in Kampung Biawak around 7.02am on Apr 18, 2023.

Meanwhile, Joko was charged with transporting two Indonesian women into the country in a Proton Wira at the compound of a house in Kampung Biawak at about 5 am on the same day.

Judge Alexander sentenced Aprizal to two years in prison, while Joko was sentenced to 18 months jail.
