JAKARTA: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) affirmed that he views the final verdict on the election dispute read by the constitutional court (MK) as vital proof of the government’s innocence regarding election partiality allegations, reported ANTARA news agency.

“The MK’s ruling also dismisses all allegations made against the government, such as fraud, apparatus intervention and mobilisation, politicisation of social aid, and partiality of regional leaders. This is important to the government,” he remarked on Tuesday.

Jokowi made the statement on the sidelines of the inauguration of a post-earthquake reconstruction project in Mamuju, West Sulawesi, broadcast by his secretariat in Jakarta.

The head of state also emphasised that the government fully respects the MK’s final and binding verdict.

He then called on all the people of Indonesia to reunite to solidify the country’s resilience against current global geopolitical challenges.

“Since external factors related to geopolitics are currently putting pressure on all countries, we need to unite and work together to develop our country,” he said while addressing the Indonesian nation.

The president also commented that the government would soon undertake necessary preparatory measures to support the transition for the next president and vice president.

“The government also supports the transition from the current administration to the next. We will take preparatory measures, as matters involving MK have been settled. Now, we wait for the determination of the KPU (General Election Commission) tomorrow,” he noted.

On Monday (Apr 22), the MK held the reading of its verdict on the 2024 presidential election dispute.

The court decided to dismiss all challenges to the election victory achieved by the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka candidate pair put forward by Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD pairs. – BERNAMA-ANTARA
