MIRI: Those going home for the Gawai Dayak celebration are advised to inform the nearest police station of their absence.

Miri District Police chief ACP, Lim Ming Seah said this would enable the police to keep an eye on their residence during their absence.

The police, he said, would be patrolling the neighbourhoods here to prevent house break-ins during the festive season.

“We do not want any untoward incidents such as break-in happen when they return to their hometown,” he said.

It is a norm for the Dayak communities to return to their respective hometown to celebrate Gawai Dayak which falls on 1 and 2 June.
