Will Samsung be the first to make a smartphone without any physical keys? According to Korean media reports, yes.

The war on buttons has long been waging, with most major flagship devices having gotten rid of the home button already.

But power or volume keys have been a constant presence — until now, perhaps. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 could replace physical keys with touch or gesture-based controls instead.

The South Korean website ENews was not very clear on any details, however.

The biggest indicator is that Samsung has recently filed patents on technology that allows users to squeeze the display’s edges in order to perform certain actions.

The website also says the technology will first appear on Samsung’s Galaxy A series before the launch of the Note 10, so if there are any complaints, at least it won’t have been tested on the flagship first.

Other Korean media outlets speculate that the Note 10 will go on sale in August or September this year, and that it will have four cameras on the back. – dpa
