KUCHING: The Ministry of Works welcomes the suggestions and ideas from Bumiputera contractors to help solve the issues faced by them.

Speaking at the ministry’s townhall session with Bumiputera contractors G1, G2 and G3, its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said various issues, problems, suggestions and ideas had been highlighted in the session.

“One of the first issues that was often asked of me was the issue of Bumiputera contractors going out of business which is getting worse.

“Among the other issues that have been touched on include the issue of project value for G1 contractors, foreign contractors, the increase in the price of building materials, loan funds, course fees and also the issue of G1 registration,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday (Feb 20).

This approach, he said, was certainly in line with the values of the Unity Government which is based on the Madani concept, which is concern and caring attitude towards the affected communities.

Nanta also said he had touched on the issue of ‘Alibaba’ which allegedly happens among contractors.

“I remind all parties to be responsible but I also would like to emphasise that my focus and the ministry’s is not to find fault but to work towards empowerment so that all contractors can compete healthily and thrive,” he added.
