MIRI: The season for ‘bubuk’, ‘udang gerangau’ or better known as krill shrimps here is back again.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) in news report today (Feb 13), the public have thronged the local fish markets to get the krill shrimps.

Krill shrimps are often served as a dish or used to make ‘belacan’ (shrimp paste) and ‘cencaluk’ (fermented shrimp paste).

The krill shrimps are sold at the fish markets at Kampung Batu Satu Kuala Baram, Kampung Piasau Utara, Kampung Luak and Kampung Kuala Bakam.

The much sought after seafood is sold for between RM6 and RM8 per kg, depending on the quality.

According to the local residents, the krill shrimps obtained in Miri are of the best quality and can be turned into shrimp paste, fried, or dried.

As is customary, this krill shrimp season lasts only three or four weeks, depending on the weather.
