Jailed six months for beating father, 86 with a broomstick

KUCHING: An unemployed woman was sentenced to six months’ jail for beating her 86-year-old biological father by the Sessions Court here today.

Accused Yeo Ngang Sui, 50, pleaded guilty to a charge read out by an interpreter before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.

According to the charge, she was charged under Section 324 and read together with Section 326A of the same Code, for intentionally causing injury to her biological father.

She was accused of committing the act at a house at Taman Poh Kwong, here, at about 7 pm, on May 12.

According to the facts of the case, on the day of the incident, the complainant, who is the father of the accused, was beaten with a broomstick by his daughter during a verbal altercation.

Apart from that, the accused also pushed and hit the complainant on the head.

As a result of the blow, the complainant experienced pain in the head and left hand.

Concerned for his safety, the father then lodged a police report for further action.

Two days after the incident, the police managed to detain the accused at a public toilet at Jalan Masjid Padang Pasir, here.

During the mention of the case, the accused applied for a lighter sentence as it was her first offence and she regretted the act.

The accused, who lived with her parents, admitted to having a family crisis.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
