LIMBANG: The Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Tour Convoy 2023 has reached Limbang today to entertain and meet with the local community after days of travel from Bintulu and Miri.

Earlier on August 9, the convoy was welcomed by Selangau Member of Parliament (MP) Edwin Banta, together with heads of departments and community leaders in Tatau district, at a petrol station.

They handed out the Jalur Gemilang flags to travellers at the petrol station in conjunction with the National Day celebration.

On the third day, the convoy made its way to Wisma Kontena, Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB), as the group contributed sponsorship to the state Information Department to make the Sarawak-level National Day and Malaysia Day celebration (HKHM2023) a success.

State Information Department deputy director Aziz Abdul Rahman, who is also the leader of the convoy, together with BPHB chief executive officer Ruslan Abdul Ghani and others proceeded to fly the Jalur Gemilang flags.

The ceremony was enlivened with the performance of a war cry by the BPHB Auxiliary Police team and a fire cry by the BPHB fire team, which consisted of 50 people.

The convoy was later flagged off from Wisma Kontena to move to Miri Islamic Complex, where the programme was graced by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Women and Child Development Datuk Rosey Yunus.

In her speech, she told the people that they should be proud because Sarawak has been set as an example not only in Malaysia but in the world in terms of its multi-racial unity and the attitude of tolerance among the people that has been practised since time immemorial.

On the fourth day, the convoy was greeted by the community in Kampung Pabahanan, Limbang, and accompanied by 20 high-powered motorcycles.

The event was further enlivened by the presence of Limbang Resident Unus Tambi, who was joined by department heads, community leaders, and local residents.

Unus, accompanied by Aziz, handed over the Jalur Gemilang flags to the heads of government departments, school representatives, community representatives, and representatives of civil society.

At the event, there were performances from Pentarama Sarawak and ambuyat-making demonstrations by Pabahanan households.

The team also visited some schools around Limbang to further invigorate the patriotic spirit among schoolchildren.

The convoy will continue its journey to Lawas and Sipitang, Sabah, and return to Lawas for the Infiesta Integrasi@HKHM2023, which will be held tomorrow (August 13) in Lawas town.

Members of the public are invited to attend the programme.
