KUCHING: Sarawak’s green technology development initiatives will benefit the state from the aspects of energy security, food and the environment.

Japan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Takahashi Katsuhiko also pointed out that by far, Sarawak is the most active region in the green technology development activities.

“Sarawak is very active in voicing opinions about green technology.

“I hope that Sarawak will be the centre of the development of this activity by using technology from Japan,” he said after paying a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Tuesday (Apr 4).

Touching on the visit, Takahashi said he expressed Japan’s appreciation to the Sarawak government for the support given in conjunction with the opening of the ‘Chitoce Carbon Capture Central’ event held on Tuesday morning.

“This project would not have been possible without the support of the Premier. As of now, there are 30 Japanese companies operating in the state including Chitoce Carbon Capture Central which is a collaboration project between Japan and Sarawak,” he added.

He said he also discussed matters related to liquefied natural gas (LNG) with the Premier.

“I hope that this collaboration will continue as Japan is one of the countries that import LNG from Sarawak,” he said.

The Japanese envoy hoped that the cooperation between Japan and Sarawak would be further strengthened, especially in the field of business.
