KUCHING: The Social Welfare Department (JKMS) welcomes more parties and persons interested in volunteering and offering various forms of assistance to support vulnerable individuals in society.

Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said their contributions go beyond labour and financial support, encompassing social support services such as guidance and counselling.

For example, she said, any parties interested can organise community service activities at JKMS institutions or visit clients who have experienced trauma and require social support such as counselling.

“I believe there are still many needy groups who have not been assisted, especially in areas that are difficult for JKMS to reach due to lack of information and (they also face) challenges to visit our offices to seek help.

“For instance, in the vast area from Lundu to Sematan, we only have two officers, which maynot be sufficient to provide comprehensive services. Therefore, we also rely on volunteers as well as other agencies in delivering JKMS services, including identifying more groups in need.

“So, I encourage more individuals, organisations or other agencies to participate in community work and collaborate with JKMS in delivering assistance to vulunrable groups in the society.”

Fatimah was speaking at the ‘Sejambak Kasih Aidil Fitri Tahun 2024’ event in Lundu on Thursday (Mar 28); she was represented by Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus.

She said each eligible individual will receive RM100 cash from JKMS and a hamper worth RM250 from Petronas.

JKMS had allocated RM1,662,400 for the Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri 2024 event, benefitting 16,624 recipients across Sarawak.

Fatimah also hoped Petronas continues its collaboration and cooperation not only in Sejambak Kasih but also in other CSR programmes in the future.
