Jobless man gets six months for threatening his father

KUCHING: A 31-year-old unemployed man was sentenced to six months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court for threatening his father.

Saiful pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which was read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali, on Monday (May 8).

The accused committed the offence at a house in Jalan Bako at about 6.35pm on March 13 this year.

If convicted, the accused could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison or fined or both.

Based on the facts of the case, the 66-year-old complainant was furious because his son often returned home late.

The accused got angry and chased the complainant with an iron rod and uttered threatening words such as “I’ll kill you later”.

Concerned for their family’s safety, the complainant made a police report for further action which lead to the arrest of the accused on March 14 at their residence.

Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad requested that the accused be punished heavily as a lesson and take into account the seriousness of the offence committed.
