KAPIT: Chairman Kapit Division Archery Association, Ting King Yiing was very much impressed with the outstanding performance of the young archers who represented MSS Kapit to the MSS Sarawak Inter-Divisions’ Age Group Archery Competitions held at Miri recently.

In the twelve years old and below category (boys and girls mixed), Kapit team managed to secure fourth pacing in the competitions participated by eight divisions.

Speaking to the press yesterday, Ting told that he was very much impressed with the young archers who did very well in the competition for the first time.

“They were taking part in the competition for the first time ever held outside Kapit. I am proud to note that Kapit team emerged fourth or the fourth best in the competitions participated by eight divisions. I believe if given the proper guidance and training, in future, they should be able to shine better,” added Ting.

He disclosed that Kapit Division Archery Association has carried out its adoption programme and has adopted several schools in the town areas to promote the archery sport. Among those schools include SJK © Hock Lam, SMK Selirik, SMK Kapit and SMK Kapit 2.

However, he pointed out that the greatest shortcoming faced by the association is that, the association does not have a proper training ground to practise shooting. He said this has hampered the practice because they could only borrow private venue to practise on Saturday and Sunday and not everyday.

“We hope the government, Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia are able to identify a place for us to practise shooting and training for the enthusiasts,” he said. He added that training is most important for various categories of range from 30 metres, 50 metres, 70 metres and 90 metres as practice makes perfect.
