KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Kota Samarahan parliamentary seat will continue to be a stronghold of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), said Datuk Rubiah Wang.

The GPS candidate cum incumbent said that Kota Samarahan is one of the party’s strongest seats and she is confident of her victory for the parliamentary constituency in the 15th general election (GE15).

“God willing with our aspirations, party strength and unity within the party, we will be able to achieve our victory in Kota Samarahan and ensure that this area will remain a GPS stronghold in Sarawak,” she said when met by reporters after the announcement of the candidates for the Kota Samarahan parliamentary seat at the Kota Samarahan Civic Centre here yesterday.

In the meantime, Rubiah added that she welcomed the challenge against Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Abang Abdul Halil Abang Naili in a straight fight for the Kota Samarahan parliamentary seat in the GE15.

“I welcome the challenge and I hope that our face-off will be able to be a peaceful and positive one. I believe Abdul Halil and I have the same intention which is to fight for the benefit of the people,” she said.

Meanwhile, Rubiah, backed by more than 1,000 supporters in attendance at the ground outside of the Kota Samarahan Civic Centre, said that the number of people that showed up during Nomination Day showed the unwavering support to GPS.

“As a GPS candidate, I once again assure the people here that I will continue to get the enormous support from this area and if given another chance, I will continue to do my best in continuing the vision and goal that I have, which is to improve Kota Samarahan.

“I would like to continue my endeavour in transforming Kota Samarahan and see the development of telecommunications, better healthcare, more urban development and many more,” she explained.

She also called on the GPS supporters to continue to show her the support in GE15.

“I hope that we can win in a huge fashion because our strength is the support and trust given by the people in Kota Samarahan as a whole,” she stressed.

In the previous GE14, Rubiah garnered 25,070 votes against AMANAH Sopian Julaihi (8,078 votes) and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) Zulkipli Ramzi (2,719 votes).

Kota Samarahan parliamentary constituency recorded a total of 82,229 voters for this GE15.
