KPJ Kuching achieves milestone with 206th knee surgery using advanced robotic tech

KUCHING: KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital (KPJ Kuching) recently has completed its 206th knee surgery within seven months utilising the cutting-edge Robotic Surgery Assistant (ROSA).

The completion marks a remarkable milestone in orthopaedic surgery showcasing the group’s commitment to advancing surgical technology and patient-centric care.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said as the pioneering hospital in the region to adopt the remarkable surgical technique, KPJ Kuching has boldly paved the way for a new era of precision medicine and accuracy in the orthopaedic field.

“This technology has truly revolutionised the field, offering unparalleled levels of customisation and surgical precision.

“Surgeons such as KPJ Kuching Resident Consultant Orthopaedics Surgeon Dr Lee Woo Guan have harnessed the power of ROSA to meticulously tailor implant positioning with exceptional accuracy, leading to improved surgical outcomes and faster recovery times for patients suffering from knee issues.

Dr Sim said this in his speech during the ‘200 Leaps, A Million Smiles: KPJ Kuching’s Remarkable Journey with ROSA’ celebration event at KPJ Kuching here today (Mar 28).

Since its implementation in August 2023 until February 2024, there has been a notable 28.7 per cent increase in successful TKR operations compared to the previous year, totalling 358 procedures.
