Driver dead, passenger hurt in bridge fall

The scene of the accident that claimed the life of a man and injured another in Limbang.

LIMBANG: A driver died on the spot, while his passenger suffered severe injuries after their car plunge off a bridge at Jalan Sagan, Mendamit on Monday.

At 4.45 pm, the car, driven by Para Jack, 51, from Kampung Merajang Lubai, fell from a bridge about four metres high. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, a 56-year-old man from Temburong, Brunei Darussalam, was critically injured.

Firefighters from the Limbang station swiftly arrived at the scene to rescue the trapped victims from the wrecked vehicle.

“The car, bearing a Brunei registration, was returning to Limbang town from Kampung Staie after a family visit. Unfortunately, while crossing the bridge, the car went out of control and fell,” said Limbang police chief Supt Parum Niot.

The injured passenger was immediately taken to Limbang Hospital for further treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
