KUCHING: A total of 12 patients have successfully undergone Total Knee Replacement (TKR) procedures with the aid of a robotic-assisted surgical system (ROSA) at KPJ Specialist Hospital Kuching (KcSH).

The success was recorded by the hospital since receiving the machine on Aug 10.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Sim Kui Hian said ROSA also assists surgeons in customising the placement of knee implants for patients having TKR procedures with more precision and accuracy.

He said this new machine is a testament to KcSH’s commitment to innovation, technological advancement, economic growth, and reflects the dedication to remain at the forefront of industry development, including maintaining a competitive edge on the global stage.

“ROSA is not just an equipment; it’s a symbol of potential, a tool for future success, and hope for the healthcare industry. Therefore, I have been informed that all patients who have undergone the TKR procedure are now able to walk normally without the need for crutches,” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government said this at the launch of ROSA at KcSH here, Monday (Sept 4).

Dr Sim interacts with one of the patients who had undergone TKR surgery using the Robotic Surgical Assistant (ROSA).

He added that KcSH’s efforts in providing this machine paves the way for a bright future in healthcare development in Sarawak.

“I also want to express my gratitude to KcSH, as their team has taken the initiative to bring in a machine worth over RM2 million to Kuching, making it the first in Borneo,” he said.

Meanwhile, KcSH’s General Manager Nurhazimah Mahat said the hospital is offering significant discounts of over 10 per cent to patients who wish to use the ROSA service.

“For example, the original price for a unilateral TKR procedure is approximately RM36,000, but the promotional price offered is only RM31,888. Meanwhile, for bilateral TKR, the original price is RM70,000, but the promotional price is around RM58,888,” she explained, adding that the promotion is valid until the end of the year.
