PONTIANAK: The direct flight route from Kuching to Pontianak will resume after it has received approval from the Indonesian Ministry of Transport.

The Governor of West Kalimantan, Bapak Sutarmidji M.Hum, said that this matter had been discussed with the management of AirAsia through a video call recently.

“The decision now rests with the Indonesian Ministry of Transport,” he told reporters during a courtesy visit from the Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA) at his office in Pontianak on Thursday.

Bapak Sutarmidji mentioned that he has written to and discussed the matter with the ministry to have flights connecting Kuching, Pontianak, and Jakarta.

As of today, the direct flight routes between Kuching and Pontianak have not resumed yet.

However, Sarawak Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, previously said that these flights will resume to facilitate Pontianak residents who need to travel to Kuching for medical and health reasons.
