KUCHING: Four local bands will compete this coming Friday for one available slot to perform at the upcoming Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival (KWJF) next month.

The KWJF Jazz Band Search finals will take place this Friday at the Poolside Pavilion of the Grand Margherita Hotel here from 7pm.

The competing local jazz talents are Jazzanova, The Fingerprints, Sang Timur and SL2J.

This year’s talent competition looks for creativity, originality and composition to select a winning band to perform at the KWJF from September 27 to 28 at the Waterfront Walkway, Grand Margherita Hotel.

The KWJF Jazz Band Search finals is organised by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). One of the jazz festival’s objectives is to develop and nurture local Sarawak musicians. Admission to the finals is free for the public.

The 3rd annual KWJF this year will see local Sarawak talents performing alongside an eclectic line-up of musicians and performers from around the region such as Ning Baizura (Malaysia), Harvey Malaihollo (Indonesia), Sitti Navarro (Philippines), Dave Brewer & The DooDaddies (Australia), Dawn Wong & The Shanghai Jazz Club (Singapore) and more.

In Miri, a KWJF Jazz Roadshow will be held this Saturday (Aug 31) from 6.30pm at the Matahari Poolside Hut, Miri Marriott Resort & Spa.

The jazz preview show, which is free for the public, will feature music sessions by Sabahan duo Asif & Rene as well as local Kuching jazz band Swaiv.

Lucky draw prizes for the audience will also be up for grabs.
