SIBU: Taman Selera Harmoni Sibu here will be the largest halal culinary hub in the Central Zone with 47 stalls.

It will also be the second halal hub after the first one was declared at Taman Selera Lundu in June earlier this year.

Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) deputy chairman Councillor Bujang Zainuddin Abdul Majid said a total of 47 traders at Taman Selera Harmoni attended the halal certification briefing session held at the Baitulmal Hall of Sibu Islamic Complex last Friday.

“This is the initiative of Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister cum Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee and MPS chairman Councillor Clarence Ting Ing Horh in collaboration with the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (Jais)’s Halal Development Unit to make Taman Selera Harmoni Sibu the first halal culinary hub in Sibu,” he said on Saturday (Nov 28).

Bujang said the Muslim Traders Association of Taman Selera Harmoni Sibu also previously set the same goal where before this they have also worked for the past few years by empowering traders by organising a food operators and anti-typhoid injection course to comply with the Food Act 1983.

“We expect the halal certification to be obtained by the Taman Selera Harmoni Sibu traders by early next year,” he explained.

Commenting further, Bujang said his team is in the process of collecting the information of stall operators from Nov 27 to Dec 6 and the application for halal certification will be made between Dec 7 and Dec 12.

“Once the fee payment is made, the certification audit will follow suit between Dec 17 and Dec 26. The halal certification is expected to be approved by Jan 7 next year, if there are no errors during the audit,” he added.
