Leadership training to develop real-world skills

KUCHING: The recent Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) Training in Kuching for Club Officers emphasised the importance of developing real-world skills to thrive in today’s ever-changing and vibrant global environment.

Held on 8 December 2018 at the International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS), Jalan Stampin Timur, Kuching, forty club officers from various Toastmasters clubs in Kuching attended the training session(s). The training was organised by Division D of District 87, Toastmasters International.

Commenting on the training sessions, Division D Director and Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Stanley Gona Chee Khiong said, “Training sessions for club officers are held twice a year. Providing effective training for club officers will go a long way to enhance the range and quality of services to our members as they progress along the voyage to develop their communication and leadership skills. Indeed, this is an integral part of our ongoing objective to work closely with our members to achieve their personal and professional development goals.”

Stanley also took the opportunity to thank the Senior District 87 Officers, namely District Director Liana Kwan, DTM, Programme Quality Director Wong Toh Hee, DTM, and Club Growth Director Allen Ang, DTM for facilitating the training sessions (conducted in English and Mandarin) in Kuching. He also thanked former District 51 Governor Dunstan Chan, DTM for conducting the Contest Judging Workshop. District 87 comprises Toastmasters Clubs from Brunei, Indonesia and East Malaysia.

Stanley also shared that Toastmasters club meetings are held fortnightly at the various clubs in Kuching. These meetings enable Toastmasters (club officers and members alike) to develop skills in a variety of disciplines.Through Pathways, Toastmasters’new education programme, one will be able to develop real-world, transferable skills in different areas – communication, leadership, management, strategic planning, service to others, public speaking, etc.

Toastmasters International has more than 357,000 members. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 16,600 clubs in 143 countries.
