SIBU: The decision to leave Barisan Nasional (BN) was critical for Sarawak and the people because the political scenario in the country had changed.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said because of the change in the political scenario after the 14th general election, Sarawak’s ruling parties had no other choice but to leave BN.

“And now we are under one roof, which is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) comprising Sarawak-based political parties, namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP),” she said at the GPS Women (Sibu) Gawai Raya celebration at the residence of Sharifah Aminah in Jalan Ikhsora Kampung Datu Baru here yesterday.

Fatimah said GPS was fighting for the best of Sarawak’s interests and development as well as the people’s welfare.

“We formed GPS to enable us to make our own decisions because it is the right time for us to be on our own. This is our stand because we want to fight for Sarawak’s rights,” she explained.

Fatimah urged party members to provide continuous service to the people, noting that in PBB, they had the “Skuad Sayang” consisting of volunteers who would go to the ground and reach out to those in need, delivering welfare assistance to the less fortunate.
