SIBU: Voters here have been told to ask themselves a pertinent question before they head for the polls this Saturday.

It has to do with whether the town has benefited development-wise in the ten years it has been represented by opposition MPs.

It’s time for change – by giving full support to the two Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates in this election, said Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

“After 10 years of Sibu (Sibu and Lanang parliamentary seat) under the opposition, what did Sibu get?,” asked the state Transport Minister.

“Hence, I hope this time people in Sibu will vote for a change, don’t vote for the opposition,” he said.

He was representing Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian at a Unity Lunch organised by the Durin Community Association on Today (Nov 17).

Lee pointed out that both the GPS candidates for Sibu and Lanang have vast experience having served well in the local authority.

“It is very hard to find one like Clarence Ting as the candidate as he is a hard-working chairman of Sibu Municipal Council.

“The other Wong Ching Yong who is deputy chairman of Sibu Rural Disrict Council will also be able to serve the Lanang constituency well based on his experience in serving the community,” he said.

Lee was confident they would bring development and changes to both Sibu and Lanang if they were given the five-year opportunity as MPs.

“This election is also the best time to show our full support to all 31 candidates of GPS as we are contesting on our own and not in any coalition like before,” he said.

He stressed that the people must unite to ensure GPS wins big so that it will have a stronger bargaining power to negotiate on the return of the state’s rights under MA63.

A total of 2,000 members of the Durin Community Association were in attendance.
