KUCHING: Datuk Peter Minos has expressed concern over the recent spate of crimes here, saying that two robberies within two weeks have left residents feeling unsafe.

The political observer said that the robberies, as well as other crimes, have raised concerns about the overall state of law and order in the city.

“The police are our best friends against criminals, but they cannot do it alone,” Minos said in a statement today.

“We must help the police by being their ‘eyes and ears’ on the ground. Simply making police reports after crimes have been committed is not enough; we must be more proactive in our efforts to combat crime.”

Minos noted that frequent robberies can create fear in society, especially among those living in isolated areas who cannot afford to install iron gates and grills for extra protection.

“Living in constant fear of robbers, housebreakers, and thieves makes life unbearable and intolerable,” he added.

Minos also said that it would be ideal to have a crime-free society, but that this is not realistic. However, he said that people have a right to feel safe in their homes and communities, and that everyone has a role to play in making this a reality.
