SIBU: A factory was destroyed while two others were slightly damaged by fire in the wee hours this morning at Tapah road here.

According to Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie, firemen from Sibu Central and Sungai Merah stations were promptly deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 1.17 am.

“The fire started from a liquor factory before spreading to another two factories producing cooking oil and ice cream,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune.

Andy said that despite swift action by the firefighters, the liquor factory was destroyed while both ice cream and cooking oil factories suffered only 5 per cent damage.

Fortunately, he said, no injuries were reported.
