SIBU: Three prominent local figures have been reappointed as Temenggong for the Chinese, Malay, and Iban communities for another two-year term.

The appointees are Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming, 76, Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce Tuanku Mohd, 77, and Stanley Geramong Bandar, 65.

The appointment letters were officially handed over by Sibu Resident Wong Hee Sieng at the Resident Office today (Jan 30), witnessed by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.

Chieng lauded the trio’s leadership, especially their commendable efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as their role in promoting unity, harmony, and the cultural traditions of the diverse races in Sibu.

He further emphasised the importance of community leaders like Temenggongs, Kapitans, Penghulu, and tribal chiefs in disseminating government messages and policies.

“As leaders, their role in advocating government policies is vital in Sarawak’s journey towards becoming a developed state within the next 10 to 20 years,” said Chieng.
