BINTULU: Narcotics police picked up two suspects for drug possession and pushing yesterday.

Bintulu police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit said the suspects aged 29 and 36, were arrested for allegedly abusing drugs under a bridge at Jalan Tatau-Sibu.

“The suspects will be investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of 11 straw tubes containing drugs weighing 5.3g.

“If convicted, both of them can be sentenced to jail for a term of up to five years and whipping,” he said.

Other than that, they will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after being tested positive for methamphetamine.

The drugs are believed to be meant for distribution around Tatau and can be supplied to 50 individuals.

Batholomew added that the arrest was part of efforts to overcome the drug problem, in addition to preventing crime in the district.

He advised the public to channel any information related to drugs activities to Bintulu police at 086-318304.
