DENNIS Ngau (PBB-Telang Usan) has urged the state government to allow Suruhanjaya Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) or relevant agencies to construct houses at the allocated residential areas within the Long Lama rural growth centre (RGC) master plan.

He said a significant population had to be drawn to live there to further drive development in Long Lama RGC and Long Lama town, which was the heart of his Telang Usan constituency.

“Therefore, there is a need to develop the housing component of it first,” he said when debating on the Supply (2021) Bill 2020 today.

He pointed out that Long Lama was one of the growth spots in Baram as earlier mentioned and proposed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

At the same time, he expressed his appreciation to the chief minister for approving the request for the construction of the sports complex at Long Lama RGC.

With regard to the longhouse loan scheme for under-privileged families, he said within his constituency, requests had been received from Nahah A, Ulu Baram; Uma Bawang; Long Win; Long Marudi; Long Aya; Apau Gon; Long Daloh Bistari; Ba Pakan; and others.

“I therefore request officers responsible for this to make contact with our Telang Usan and Beluru District Offices to work out the details,” said Ngau.

Commending the state government’s holistic development approach, he said his constituency had greatly benefited from Sarawak’s generous development budget year in and year out.

“I am also particularly happy that the 2021 State Budget includes a good sum for the tourism sector,” he said, pointing out that promotional activities for the tourism sector must be continued regardless of the current circumstances.
