MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau praised the residents of 57-door Pakan Sungai Akah longhouse in Baram who have set up barricades to prevent outsiders from coming in.

Dennis, who went to deliver food aid to the most remote settlements in the constituency yesterday, praised the village development and security committee (JKKK) for its initiative to prevent people from visiting their village out of fear of Covid-19.

“I am glad to see that all entrances that I passed through in Sungai Apoh, Patag-Abang, and Sungai Akah had barriers to stop strangers from entering without permission,” he said in a press statement, yesterday.

Dennis also reminded villagers in Ba Pakan to abide by the movement control order (MCO) and the directives of the head of the Borneo Evangelical Mission not to gather in church for now.

Joshua Geng, a member of the village’s JKKK, said the villagers were merely supporting and obeying the MCO to help the government curb the pandemic.

“Other than that we cannot do as much but pray to God to protect us and our leaders,” he said.

Pakan Sungai Akah longhouse is about six hours’ drive from Miri city via logging roads.
