KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Women chief Kho Teck Wan agrees that there is a loophole in the ban on social events in Covid-19 red and orange zones.

She said this in response to a netizen who pointed out that with no travel ban between inter-zones in the state, those in red and orange zones could still travel to green or yellow zones to organise or attend social events.

“Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced the ban of social events in orange and red zones. However, this person (who pointed out the loophole) is right.

“No wedding or any social event in Kuching? No problem. Organise it in yellow or green zones, which is a few hours’ drive away. Now, we got a loophole,” she said in a Facebook post on Sunday (April 4).

Kho said therefore, either stop inter-zone travel between red, orange, green and yellow zones or ban social gatherings entirely.

On April 4, SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced that organising social events in red and orange zones was not allowed.

He said organising social events such as weddings, engagements, receptions, aqiqah ceremonies, prayers, tahlil, birthday celebrations, reunions, retreats and other social ceremonies were allowed in green and yellow zones with not more than 50 per cent capacity.
