Lorry driver fined RM4k for threatening to kill wife

KUCHING: A lorry driver was sentenced to a fine of RM4,000 in default three months’ jail for threatening to kill his wife, who allegedly opened his bag, by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

The accused Junaidi Joni, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code which was read before Senior Assistant Court Registrar Sandy Yvette Freddy.

According to the charges, he committed the act against his 46-year-old wife in an unnumbered house in Kampung Bintawa Tengah at about 8 am on Nov 21 this year.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident in their residence, the accused strangled the victim’s neck, slapped her face, and kicked her body many times in their bedroom.

The suspect also threatened to kill the victim if she told his father about the incident.

It is understood that the cause of the incident was because the accused thought the victim had opened his duffel bag.

The prosecution of the case was handled by prosecuting officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
