MIRI: The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) vessels have always patrol around Luconia Shoals (Beting Patinggi Ali) to ensure the sovereignty of the country.

“Our vessels have always been there to monitor the situation,” said Miri MMEA director Captain Md Fauzi Othman.

Fauzi was met today (Sept 23) at a shooting skills test with his personnel and a group of local media in Lambir here.

“So far, we don’t have any confrontation with China,” he said.

Fauzi added that the Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) ships can also be seen patrolling the area (Luconia Shoals) in the South China Sea.

The Luconia Shoals is located around 100 kilometres off the Sarawak coast, inside Malaysia’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Luconia Shoals is one of the largest and least known reef complexes in the South China Sea.

Administered by Malaysia, the shoals are also claimed by China and Taiwan.
