Main suspect in toilet attack detained

MIRI: Police here on Thursday detained the main suspect in the attack incident involving a private higher learning institution student.

The attack happened at a toilet of a music cafe in Marina Square on October 18.

A team of personnel from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detained the suspect, a local aged 21, around 2.45pm to facilitate their investigation on the incident.

Two other suspects, also locals were detained two days after the alleged attack incident.

On October 18, around 1.30am, a male student of the private higher learning institution, sustained injuries on his body after allegedly being assaulted in an attack by the suspects while he was in the premises’ toilet.

The victim, a Pakistani, prior to the attack had gone to the music cafe with three other friends.

While in the toilet, the victim was suddenly being approached by his assailants who later on dragged him out after which he was subsequently punched and kicked repeatedly.

A police report on the incident was lodged on that same day. The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
