Malaysia dances into the hearts of the judges at Cheonan World Dance Festival

KUCHING: Universiti Teknologi Petronas’ Performing Arts Group (UPAG) bagged gold in the 19th Cheonan World Dance Festival held in South Korea recently.

The dance troupe, representing Malaysia, performed the ‘Ngajat’, a traditional Iban dance accompanied by music from the Sanggar Kirana Gamelan Group.

The dance festival is the largest dancing festival in Korea, aimed at celebrating diversity and culture around the world through performing arts and dance.

A total of 16 participating countries took part in the dance festival this year, including Poland, Brazil, Philippines, China.

Previously, UPAG also won gold in the same competition in 2013, a runner-up in 2018 and placed third in 2012 and 2015.

They were also crowned champion for Festival of Colours (FESCO) from 2008 to 2011 and 2017.
