KUCHING: Political analyst, Dick Lembang Dugun said Malaysia needed a new political narrative to bring back its dignity and see it flourish again.

“Currently, we are left behind by our neighbours like Indonesia, Philippine and even Vietnam.

“Come the 15th General Election (GE 15), the people must think carefully who they choose to lead the country.

“We are a laughing stock to other countries if our political narrative is still stagnant like now,” he said.

Lembang was commenting on the new federal Cabinet line-up.

He said, “There are not many changes from the previous government.

“The people who are appointed as ministers and deputy ministers are the same people from the previous prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Cabinet, and only portfolio swapping among the ministers.

“How do we want to move on? This is about managing the country and not managing your own business or party. Is our country short of quality and capable MPs?,” he asked.

Nevertheless, the lecturer with the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) said the present government must focus on its main task which was to handle the pandemic and its impacts,  especially on the economy and people’s welfare.
