KUCHING: Malaysia currently ranks 23rd in the world postage index but the federal government wants the nation to be ranked 20th out 170 countries, Deputy Minister of Multimedia and Communication, Dato Jailani Johari said.

Speaking to reporters after officiatimg at the ‘Hari Pos Sedunia’ themed ‘Innovation, Integration and Inclusion’ at Kuching Post Office here yesterday, he said the government will undertake various programmes which will include Sarawak to boost the ranking of Malaysia in postage index.

He said that one of the main programmes that will include Sarawak is the Transformation Plan for Sabah and Sarawak (PTPSS) that involves the development e-commerce and its logistics in the state. “Throughout the nation we have implemented 840 ‘Pusat Internet 1Malaysia’ and in Sarawak 130 of such centers have been established.

“Pusat Internet 1Malaysia is a community based internet centre which allows surrounding community to have Internet access. “Besides that, two agencies have been established by Pos Malaysia to collect local products to be sold online,” he added.
