KUCHING: Malaysian students currently pursuing their studies at Seoul’s Dongyang Mirae University have been urged to serve as cultural ambassadors for their homeland.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Datuk Wee Hong Seng, in encouraging them to help promote their country, said these students abroad are valuable representatives of Malaysia.
“Help our country by promoting our culture and tourism as you are the ambassador of our beloved country,” he said.
He said this during an official visit to Dongyang Mirae University, Seoul, South Korea located in the Guro District recently.
Wee also encouraged the students to consider returning to Malaysia after completing their studies to make meaningful contributions to the nation.
He also expressed his desire to establish an education exchange programme with Dongyang Mirae University and other universities in Guro City.
“The idea is to expose our Kuching south residents, especially the youth or teenagers on the potential courses that they can choose for tertiary education.
“We need our children to have more choices for them to further their study. With such exchanges in education, we will be able to create more professional expertise in the future,” he said.
Earlier, during the visit, Wee was also joined by the council’s senior officers. Upon their arrival, the university’s representatives and the Malaysian students welcomed the delegation.
Dongyang Mirae University is an industrial technical university in Seoul, South Korea.
Currently, 22 Malaysian students, including those from Sarawak, are enrolled in various programmes at the university, with most of them in their first and second years of study.
After the sharing session with the university, the delegation also had the opportunity to tour the university’s facilities.
